Gate Valve

A gate valve is a type of linear motion valve that is used to control the flow of fluids by either fully opening or fully closing the flow path. It is called a “gate” valve because it has a sliding gate-like disc that moves perpendicular to the direction of flow to control the passage of fluid.

The key features of a gate valve include a body, a gate (disc), seats, stem, and an actuator. The gate is typically wedge-shaped or parallel-sided and moves up and down to block or allow the flow. When the gate is fully raised, the valve is fully open, allowing unrestricted flow. Conversely, when the gate is fully lowered, the valve is closed, blocking the flow completely.
